WebExpress 0.0.9-alpha – The Halloween Release Is Here

Just in time for Halloween, version 0.0.9-alpha is here and it is anything but spooky. With this release, we are delivering on our promise to significantly improve and expand the functionality of the user interface. The past few weeks have been marked by intense development, iterative refinement, and a clear focus. The UI should not only look better, but also be smarter and more flexible.

What’s new in 0.0.9-alpha

The main focus of this version is the overhaul of the user interface. Many details have been revised, consolidated, or completely reimagined with the goal of creating a consistent, extensible, and pleasant UI foundation.

  • UI redesign at the core: The interface has been thoroughly reworked. Cleaner structures, more consistent components, and significantly improved interaction behavior make for a more intuitive experience.
  • Smarter package manager: The package manager has been optimized to handle dependencies more robustly and simplify the integration of new modules. Conflicts are detected earlier and resolved more effectively.
  • WebApp template with more substance: The default WebApp template has been expanded and modularized. It now offers better defaults, clearer structure, and more room for customization.
  • IncludeManager: Brand new is the IncludeManager, a flexible system for integrating client resources such as scripts, stylesheets, or dynamic components. Managing frontend assets is now much easier and more context-aware.
  • And much more: Numerous smaller improvements, refactorings, and new hooks make this the most stable and versatile alpha release to date.

Looking ahead: Version 0.0.10-alpha focuses on the WebApp

With the Halloween release out, the next highlight is already on the horizon. Version 0.0.10-alpha will shift the spotlight to the WebApp. The goal is to not only expand functionality, but also strengthen the structural foundation with more templates, a refined permissions system, and a significantly extended API.

The new templates will cover common use cases and make it easier to get started. Whether for dashboards, workspaces, or modular UI flows, the templates offer clear structures and can be flexibly adapted. At the same time, a granular permissions system will be introduced, allowing access rights to be managed at the class level. Roles and actions can be controlled in detail. This is a key step toward multi-tenancy and collaborative usage.

The API will also receive a major upgrade. New endpoints for managing templates, permissions, and dynamic UI components will expand integration and automation capabilities. Special focus will be placed on interfaces for sub-issue handling and context-sensitive UI behavior.

Version 0.0.10-alpha builds directly on the UI improvements of the previous release and further refines the interplay of structure, interaction, and security. The planned release in mid-November marks another milestone on the path to a modular, scalable platform for complex workflows and elegant interfaces.

Until then, test, give feedback, and enjoy a magical Halloween πŸ•·️
